Coronavirus Curbing the spread - WFH Day #15 Lockdown Day #6

Coronavirus Curbing the spread - WFH Day #15
Lockdown Day #6
Good Morning on this Greyish overcast day, the only reason I don't mind this weather is because I have to work, and sitting at the dining room table in the Extension, if the sun comes up especially later in the afternoon, it makes it very difficult to see my screen.
I hadn't thought about what to say this morning, except it's my 2nd birthday in isolation, at least this one I am at home!
Thank you for all the lovely birthday messages, on Facebook, Messenger and Whatsapp you guys Rock!
If I don't get to send you a personal Thank you it's because Facebook is not very intuitive / user friendly, but at least it's a way of staying in contact with everyone!

Summer is arriving on the week-end

Lookout Dublin, Summer is arriving on the week-end and I think it's supposed to last an entire week :), well in general for the last few years summer has arrived on Em's birthday which is the 4th of June.  Last year we had her party on the 5th of June which turned out to be the hottest day of the year!  Hopefully this year will be no different, but as we plan not to do anything at the house it won't matter.

I just don't have the time this year and can't be bothered with annoying mothers, so have decided just to do it outside of home.  Sunday I will have the adopted Grandparents over and some friends and that is it over for another year!

Happy Birthday my BFF

I must say that I am so lucky to have one of the Best "Best Friends" in the whole wide world, today is my BFF's birthday and we have been friends for 29 years, but it seems that it was only yesterday that I met her.  She is the most genuine, kind hearted generous persons that I know and I have never ever met anyone like her in my life.  We have been through death defying experiences together, experienced laughter, tears, pain together and through our ups and downs have remained friends all this time.

Gwen I love you like a sister, I am truly blessed to have met you and as long as we both shall leave you will be a true friend.  Happy Birthday!!!

When we honestly ask ourselves which person in our lives mean the most to us, we often find that it is those who, instead of giving advice, solutions, or cures, have chosen rather to share our pain and touch our wounds with a warm and tender hand. The friend who can be silent with us in a moment of despair or confusion, who can stay with us in an hour of grief and bereavement, who can tolerate not knowing, not curing, not healing and face with us the reality of our powerlessness, that is a friend who cares. ~Henri Nouwen

Awesome Birthday

Wow, I can't believe how many people sent me messages for my birthday, I guess Facebook is a great reminder, but even so it was so overwhelming getting so many messages from all my friends and family.   I had an awesome day too, which actually started on Thursday, I went for lunch with my "Girl" friends from work to Avoca, my favourite place, then Friday My bestest buddy send me a beautiful bouquet of flowers to the office, along with a happy Birthday Balloon, a bottle of Bubbly and a real card!

From Emily & D I got vouchers for my hair and a CD!

Saturday morning I took Emily to a "Brownies" meeting up the road and then went with a friend for breakfast, and after that my friend Carla laid on an awesome Birthday brunch for me at their house.  The weather was perfect, Blue Skies and sunshine.

Happy Birthday Honey ...

"LIVE LIKE A ROCK STAR"

Dearest Derri,
I may not always say, just how much you mean to me
But my days would be dark and dreary without you
And sharing experiences would not be the same
It's not often you can find someone who loves the same things that you do,
But luckily I have, and today I am fortunate to celebrate another birthday with you,
And I hope to celebrate the next 50 with you too!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY.
All my love
Rosie

Happy Birthday my Dearest Em

Wow my little angel turned 7 today, can't believe we have got this far.  It's sad to think that we have done it without our dearest friends and family, but hey we have done it and the good thing is Em you don't miss what you never had, so although it would be great to have all your family I guess we are family, just the three of us.

You really are a special girl, no matter what anyone thinks about you, if they say your are spoilt or bossy - they are just traits that you will learn to manage.  What I love about you most is how even when I shout at you, you tell me how much you love me, and you leave me little notes around the house saying how much you love me.  I guess we have spoilt you a bit, but I guess that is what happens when you are an only child and you have no other family around.

Your teachers are always saying how kind and generous you are, and if anyone is upset or crying you are the first person to show concern and go and give a hug.  You are always giving away your stuff, I think something we both inherited from my mother, your granny who is in heaven now - oh how I wish that she could have met you.

What really tears me apart is that I have to go back to work next week and I am not going to spend that precious little time we had in the afternoon with you, but I guess now I will appreciate every second I have to spend with you!  I love you so much and want to wish you the Best birthday ever!!!

Birthday Parties

It's coming up for the BIG 7th birthday this year, and for once I am at home to organise it.  I decided to surprise Emily by making her a Tinkerbell cake, I still not quite sure how I am going to do it, but the intentions are there.  I must say that over the past few years, it doesn't matter how shabby my cake has looked - but in Em's eyes it is always the best cake she has every seen.

I need to go past the toy shops and pick up a few bits and pieces for decorating and find a candy store too.  So wish me luck with this project, lets hope it turns out okay.

Here are some photos of Em's past birthday cakes: http://thetalesofrosieroo.blogspot.com/p/birthday-cakes.html

A fancy affair

My friend turned the Big 40 on Friday (must ask her what that is like), and I have been invited for High Tea at the Radisson. I love the Radisson especially the one in Tahiti - it sounds like it is going to be fun, a bunch of ladies all dressed up to the 9's having tea & Cake and if the weather is nice sitting outside in the sun. Thanks for the invite; I am really looking forward to it.

Actually that is my second invitation to a tea party, my friend Judy in London is having her birthday party in a garden in London and the theme is "Alice in Wonderland" and the Mad Hatters tea party, I wish I could go but it is the week-end that Emily has rehearsals for her play and also my friend Lynn is coming over from London and we are off to the "Kiss" concert on Friday night, oh well I will just have to throw my own tea party some time.

Happy Birthday to Moi

Well my birthday came and went quite uneventful, I had my present the previous week when D and I went to see Tina Turner, so for my birthday I got a Tina Turner triple CD and a Bruce Springsteen DVD which I have yet to watch, and my birthday wish came true, the sun shone from the time we woke up at about 6:00 AM and did not go down till about 8:30 that evening, not a cloud in the sky and just pure Sunshine.
I picked Em up from Swimming (I think she told everyone in the school it was my birthday) and we drove to Sandymount strand and took a walk, the wind however was icy, so we did not spend too long on the beach and then drove home. I really had an awesome day, from the time I woke up, my mobile phone beeped non stop with message after message of birthday wishes, the phone at home kept ringing and my facebook was full of birthday wishes. Awesome! Thanks everyone for making my day so special.

U2 could know someone who knows Bono

I haven't bought the Dubliner magazine in a while, but yesterday when I went to the doctor - Emily and I stopped in at the Cafe next door and it was at the counter staring at me so I bought it. While waiting to see the Doc, I browsed through the magazine and came across an article called: "The greatest Dubliners" as voted by you, and of course number 6. was Bono.I had to laugh because I had told Natalie this story on Sunday, but the reason why I laughed is because the write up about Bono had this to say: "When people find out that you are Irish or from Ireland they mention Bono and if we're sober we respond with a pinched smile, as if to say - Ah, yes, the little chap in the boots, I do wish he'd stop calling. If we're drunk we launch into a well rehearsed anecdote that bears almost no relation to the truth, went to school with him, next door neighbour, Stole my cowboy hat!"

So here is the story about Paul Hewson and U2, Emily was invited to a birthday party on Saturday, one of the school kids in her class. The party was close to town where I never even knew houses existed, so we went to drop her off, when M opened the door of her Georgian house it revealed white marbled tiles, I so wanted to be invited in, but did not insist. Then on the way home I called D to see if he was still at Mouse watching the soccer, if so he could pick up Em, but he was at home but said he would fetch her anyway.

So later off he went to pick up Em and came home to tell me all about the house, he was invited in and on the wall were some framed U2 records, so D being D not shy says to M, wow where did you get that, so she quizzed D about why he wanted to know and he told her that they are one of his ultimate bands, so M say well B her husband is the security guard for U2 - has his own security company.

Also on the wall he had an electric guitar signed by The edge (who by the way's Aunt worked with me in my last job). He said that Bruce Springsteen had offered B 100K for the guitar and he turned it down - so now we know somebody who knows or has met Bruce Springsteen too!!!

Daddy's Birthday

All daddy wanted for his birthday was a chocolate cake, so Em and mom hurried home and proceeded to bake in the gas oven for the first time ever, and guess what? After an almost flop, we turned up the gas and left it in for an extra five minutes and Whola, the best chocolate cake I have every baked in my life.
Emily decorated it and was so proud of it.

My Week ...

Well my broadband has become so slow that it is unbearable, especially when you are trying to do anything on the blog or of course catch up on news on facebook, so I do need to contact my ISP provider and either give them a boot or a kick up the ... old proverbial!

This week has flown once again, last Sunday we just had a pyjama / tracksuit day, did not budge out of the house, it was rather nice for a change.

Most of the week was just Work, home, sleep - however I did get an email from production company about a story they were doing for Discovery Channel on the Sinking of the Oceanos and Moss Hill, anyway he wanted to fly me over to the UK to do an interview with them for the story, and after a few emails backwards and forwards they would have wanted me to go immediately and just told them it was impossible, so within about 24 hours they had booked a flight over to Dublin and were coming to interview me on Sunday here, but I will get back to that story later.

Wednesday was college, then Thursday came and went and finally FRIDAY the start of the long bank holiday week-end, our last bank holiday until May next year! (That's besides Christmas, New Year, Paddy's day and Easter as those are public holidays). Em was also breaking up from school, and I had made an appointment at Revive, so sitting outside the school and Mandy gives me a call to find out if I want to pop over for a coffee and so Em can play with Aron. So grab Em off to revive, then to the creche to confirm her booking for next week (she is going to the creche for the week), then to the Spar and then off to Many, well it took us 45 minutes to travel about 3 miles, the traffic up to Dundrum was a nightmare and we found out later that it was because the new Hamleys store had opened the previous day. Anyway we finally got there and could only stay for an hour as my cousin Jannie was coming for Dinner, thank goodness I had made the lasagna the night before and just had to do salad and stuff.

We left there round five and thank goodness the traffic wasn't too bad from there to our place. Got home, got Em in the bath, made the salad, got Em out bathed and then wanted to turn the computer on to check my mail, D gets home and 15 minutes later the doorbell rings, it's my cousin and his early, mainly because he is flying back to SA in the morning on an early morning flight. It was great catching up with him, and because Em did not have ballet or Drama on the Saturday she got to stay up late.

Saturday we got to sleep in a little bit, however I had a hair appointment and was then meeting a friend for lunch. I hadn't seen her for ages so it was great catching up and before we knew it, it was four o'clock and the rain was coming down in torrents, so I got D to come and pick us up, then it was off home to get changed as we were going to Diep with the gang to celebrate Kelly's birthday. Funnily Kelly landed up next to me at the hairdresser so we ended up chatting for ages which was so nice, because I knew we probably would not get too much of a chance to chat later. So get dressed, get D to fetch the baby sitter, and off we go a little early mind you, but we had a bottle of wine before everyone arrived.

It's amazing how there are 5 couples and in actual fact it was Natalie that introduced us all to one another and we all tend to get on well, even the husbands - so Thank You Natalie, if it wasn't for you I would not have met such wonderful people. So there was Moi, Nat, Tracy, Mady, Kelly, D, Charl, David, Warren and Malcolm. We were seated about 9 and the whole evening seemed to go so quickly, the food was wonderful, the company was wonderful and the evening was really really good! It all ended too soon, Tracy, Warren and I spent a lot of time talking about growing up in the South and the conversation just tended to be around everything and I suppose the common element is us all being from South Africa. By the time we were leaving to go home all I could think about was the TV crew arriving at 10:00 in the morning, so we went off to get in the car and we were Clamped! Thank goodness they did not take long to arrive to unclamp us.

Sunday morning ... I am up at about 8 too nervous to eat breakfast and then down to the study to look for all my Oceanos paraphernalia, which luckily did not take me long to find. Then quick bath get dressed and wait, they got lost so ended up only arriving after 10:30. Eric & Chris, they transformed our lounge into a Studio in a very short time, D took Em off to the dump to take all the garden refuse and then to feed the ducks just so that she was out the way. And then the interview started, I must say that they are the nicest people I have met in a long time, besides the French guys who interviewed me, but they were equally as nice. They made me feel really at ease and the interview although it went on for over an hour did not feel like it.

They then did some shots of me in the kitchen paging through my scrap book, D and Em came home just as Eric & Chris had finished packing up, we all got in the car and went off to the Dockland to get something to eat, Eric treated us to lunch at Milano's. It worked out really well as Milano's which is an Italian restaurant really caters for the children, they had a children's section with a box of toys and all the kids just congregate round the box of toys, giving the adults a time to chat and not really have to worry about them. After lunch and a bottle of wine, we went out to the River and Chris did some more shots and then some of D, Em and I. We had a lovely afternoon and headed home, only got home at about 4:30 but it was really nice.

I was exhausted by last night and fell into bed at 9:30, only to wake up 3 times and then get out of bed at 6:30 this morning (on a bank holiday). Em and I are going shopping today so lets see how the day pans out, till later have a wonderful week!
