This morning I was in the kitchen listen to Radio Nova as usual except this time we were childless, Em had a sleep over at a friend while D and I went to the concert at the O2, anyway in the mornings they have all kinds of competitions and this morning they had "Journey to a foreign land" and they played a recording in a different language and you had to phone and tell them what country the language came from, so the recording was: "Ons kantoor is nou toe, skakel asseblief .... blah blah blah", like hello why wouldn't I know where that was from. So D said phone and I did, but I never expected it to ring or for "Pat" from Radio Nova to answer, and I said "Hi, Pat it's Rose here" and he said "aaaah, I know you are going to know this" he recognised my accent. So I got it right and got into the draw. Well I the winner was going to be chosen at 9:50 and they would get tickets to see "Journey & Foreigner" at the O2 on Saturday night. I left my phone on my desk sort of hoping I would win, but never expected to, but lone behold at 9:50 my phone rang and it was Pat to tell me I had won. So I was on the radio twice in one morning! He kept me on the phone for a while and also told me what a beautiful voice I had and he bets I get told that all the time ... a bit of flirting going on there you think?
Anyway D is going round to pick up the tickets from them tomorrow and I have to get a baby sitter. Looking forward to it.

Def Leppard, Thin Lizzy and Alice Cooper
Well the main aim of the concert was to go see Def Leppard, but after seeing them in Belfast in 2008 I thought last nights gig was not that great! However, I have a new appreciation for Thin Lizzy and Alice Cooper - wow what a show. It started at 7 with Thin Lizzy coming out and belting out some of them well known hits, The boys are back in town, Black Rose and Whiskey in the Jar along with some other really good hits. They played for over and hour, then after a half hour break while they changed the set, Alice Cooper came on and although I know some of his songs I did not expect him to be the performer he was, the sets were amazing and the python wrapped around him was like a female Glenda Kemp except he kept his clothes on.
The last act was Def Leppard and they definitely did not keep the best for last, because although the songs from their new album are good and they belted out some oldies they just did not perform up to the standard we had seen in 2008. I also think coming out and telling the audience that they were not as great as the audience they had in Belfast really pissed some people off.
Between D and myself we took some amazing pictures.

Awesome Week-end
So after a quick dinner at home, we headed off to the O2 to see KISS, I wasn't really looking forward to the concert, but I think I had built myself up to it and it was nice to get out. Outside the O2 girls and guys were getting their faces painted, and inside the O2 a few guys had the full KISS costumes on, one so convincing he looked like Gene Simmons. The concert was really good and the pyrotechnics were awesome. And of course the music, guitars and Drums really good.

Whitney Houston ... Disaster
D got tickets last year July I think for Whitney Houston, I haven't really been a great fan of hers but of course I know all her hits, and after seeing Tina Turner I thought it may be good. I was impressed on Friday by the news that she had come over to Ireland on the ferry (or fairy as she called it), due to all aircraft being grounded due to the Volcano in Iceland. I had not heard any reports on her previous concerts, so went with an open mind.

We had good seats, Block B row 24 seats 78 and 79 so a good view of the stage. When she first came on stage you could hardly understand a word she was saying, she was mumbling, she sang one song and then change from the strapped on mike to a normal mike, maybe that was the problem. Anyway I don't want to go into too much detail on each song, but overall she sucked, when she was singing "I will always love you", she would take intervals during the song, and with her back to the audience, check her make up, have a drink and who knows what else and then sing another sentence, then do something else. This also happened in some of her other songs.
To the ladies who were sitting in Row 25, Block B round seats 80 on, I know she was bad but that did not give you the right to get trashed and talk on the top of your voices through the whole show, you ruined the good parts of the show which means I will only remember it has being bad and thinking that there are so many woman with bad breeding in this place, no wonder you had no men with you at the concert, in fact you probably have no men at all! And what were you all thinking getting up and thinking you were the best dancers on earth and strutting through empty rows dancing, you really should give up drinking and buy a mirror because you looked like total idiots. And once again thank you for ruining the good bits of the show, I doubt whether I will go to another "Diva" show in Ireland again.
A last thing about Whitney is that her earlier hits that made her famous, like "I will always love you" were actually cover versions, I will always love you was Dolly Parton's song, and "The greatest Love of all" was first sung by George Benson, she did do justice to the songs but they were still never hers to own!
Talking of which I saw George Benson back in 1982 or 1983 at Sun City and he was Brilliant, even got his autograph.

K.K.K.K.Kisssssssssssssssss
Are you old enough to remember the C.B. days as in Citizen Band radio, 10-4 Good Buddy, okay so I am giving away my age, I was in high school when the CB Radio was all the rage, my eldest sister who was working at the time, very kindly helped me to buy a CB Radio and get and aerial up, or wait that was some guy I met on the CB radio who came and put up an aerial for me because he developed this huge crush and wanted to talk to me 31, that's 24/7... and later stalked me for a while.
Yes, I think I was 15 or 16 when I first got the CB radio and all my girlfriends had one too, the first thing was finding a "Handle" (something you call yourself not your real name), I have no idea how it came about but I was given the handle "KISS", my other friend was "Golden Earring" and the one who named us called herself "Twinkle Toes".
The CB radio proved very interesting and we met some interesting characters through it as well, also a few boys I dated (hope hubby isn't reading this). We would arrange an "eyeball", which was a meeting to see if you liked the person, because more often than not you would be flirting with someone over the radio and when you met them in real life they would be aaaa yuck, the face for radio type person ... lol. One of my first boyfriends Michael I met over the CB, he lived in La Rochelle and was in the army at the time. Then there were the friends I met, Ivan and Andre both from the south - for the life of me I have no idea what their "handles" were, and Clifford was the guy who stalked me.
Breaker, Breaker if you wanted to interrupt a conversation, then you would try and find a clear channel to talk to someone on, and if your aerial was strong enough late at night you could talk to people in different countries around the world. I think CB radio became very popular in South Africa after movies like "Smokey and the Bandit". It also died out very quickly, like most things did in South Africa at that time. Things would be a big hit and then suddenly they would be so un-cool and then it would be over and out!
Roger, Over and out, good buddy! Mwah!!! (Who the hell is Roger?)

Once you bought your CB you had to go to the post office and get a license because if you were caught transmitting without a license of course there would be a heavy fine, and sometimes you were asked your license number over the airways, I still remember mine was ZRAM678 which would be called out as Zulu, Romeo, Alfa, Mike 678 - it was so cool learning all the new lingo.

Hopefully the concert is good, because they are also getting along in now, but I will let you know how it goes.

TINA TURNER - 02 Dublin 26/03/2009
The Best Female Artist I have EVER seen in Concert WOW, she is the most amazing almost 70 year old I have ever seen in my life!

The concert was absoulutely awesome, Tina sang her old hits and opened with "River Deep, Mountain High" by the end of the concert which was 2 and a half hours long, there was not one person left seated. The costumes the audience interaction and the venue were just amazing - the cost of the tickets were minimal to what she delivered. Another WOW her voice and body were absolutely amazing just like she has always been.
Every song was sung with so much passion, Proud Mary, River Deep Mountain High, Golden Eye, We don't need another hero, I can't stand the Rain, just to mention a few that she sang! BRILLIANT!!!
